Why Scicovery?

SCICOVERY's mission is to create and implement engaging STEM lessons to encourage young students in their development of scientific knowledge and appreciation. SCICOVERY is driven by a group of undergraduate students at Emory who design and publish free STEM activities, corresponding PowerPoint slides, and YouTube videos for teachers around the world to use in their classroom. We also host weekly STEM workshops at nearby community centers and nonprofit organizations in Atlanta!

Our Story

SCICOVERY was founded by Yejin Katy Suh in her sophomore year of high school. She began the journey of taking routine activities between her mentee from America On Track and ultimately turning it into a nonprofit that could extend its STEM programs to the underprivileged youths at nearby community centers. After volunteering at Korea's rural child centers, she realized how similar poverty's effects on migrant children in Korea are with those on homeless youth in the U.S. Since then, Yejin Katy Suh and Kajal Patel have founded an extension of organization at Emory University and trained a team of students in Atlanta who share their ambition. The teams have been having a blast going into nearby local shelters and leading workshops to encourage growing children to gain an exposure to the field of science but, most importantly, to connect with others and the world around them and receive care and love that they deserve. The long term vision for SCICOVERY is to help children to discover and thrive in their passions in the field of STEM and do not further allow their circumstances define who they are.
